Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy, one of the current treatment approaches in cancer, is immune system therapy. It is a treatment method applied by strengthening normal cells that fight against cancer cells. Immunotherapy is used as supportive therapy for cancer treatments.

Immunotherapy; It aims to make the body’s immune system fight more effectively and stronger against cancerous cells, stop the growth and spread of cancerous cells, and ultimately destroy the cancerous cell completely.

Three methods are used in immunotherapy:

1 – Monoclonal Antibody: Monoclonal antibodies are structures that are produced in the laboratory environment and injected into the body intravenously when antibodies cannot be produced by the body. These antibodies determine the location of the cancerous cell in the body and are a type of immunotherapy that aims to destroy the cell or prevent its development.

2 – Nonspecific Immunotherapy: It is another type of immunotherapy given to the patient simultaneously with or after chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments. It is grouped in 2 ways as “Interferon” and “Interleukin”.
