Cartoonist Abiko Motoo dies

According to the Kyodo agency, cartoonist Abiko Motoo, known by the pen name “Fujiko A. Fujio”, died at her home in Kawasaki, near Tokyo.

Born in Toyama in the west in 1934, the artist was awarded the Japanese government’s “Order of the Rising Sun” in 2008 for his works he presented to the comics world.

The cartoonist published works under the common pseudonym “Fujiko Fujio” with his primary school friend Fujimoto Hiroshi, whom he met in 1951, between 1954-1987.

The two cartoonists won awards for their joint works, including “Ninja Hattori-kun” and “Obake no Q-taro”, which they published for local and foreign comic book lovers.

Fujimoto “Fujiko F. Fujio” after the couple’s relationship ended; Abiko, on the other hand, continued her activities in the world of writing with the pseudonyms “Fujiko A. Fujio”.

The Netflix screening of the animation based on “Warau Seerusuman” (The Laughing Salesman), which is known for “reflecting the sociological background of Japanese society”, of Abiko, who became famous abroad with his work “Kaibutsu-kun” (The Monster Kid), continues.

Fujimoto’s “Dorae-mon” series of works, who passed away in 1996, is described as “one of the cultural icons of modern Japan”.
