The treatment of renal cancers varies according to the size and place of the tumor. In small tumors, it is possible to remove only the tumor without removing the entire kidney. As the tumor grows, it becomes impossible to remove a part of the kidney, and it is necessary to remove the entire kidney. Most of these operations occur as closed surgery. However, open surgery is preferred in very large masses or in tumors that invade the other organs.

  • In stage 1, in renal cancer, the tumor is smaller than 7 cm and it has not spread to lymph nodes or other organs.
  • In stage 2, although the tumor was over 7 cm in size, and it is still in the kidney.
  • In stage 3, cancer has spread to the surrounding tissues and lymph nodes.
  • In stage 4, cancer has spread to lymph nodes and distant organs such as bones, lungs, and liver.
