How to Prevent Cancer. Cancer is still the first cause of death in the world, and it is a disease that requires long-term struggle in term of physical and psychological. Cancer, which has existed for many years, is seen more frequently nowadays due to many reasons such as lifestyle, unhealthy nutrition, and pollution. There are different ways of preventing cancer. In particular, changes in lifestyle will be the first of these ways. In this article, we will briefly explain cancer and causes of cancer then we’ll list some cancer prevention tips below.

What is Cancer?

Cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body. When the normal control mechanism of the body stops, cancer begins to emerge. Many factors such as the environment, malnutrition, smoking, obesity, and sun have an impact on the development of cancer. Therefore, the number of cancer cases is increasing day by day. According to statistics, eleven million people get cancer every year in the world, and 7.6 million of them die. There are more than a hundred types of cancer. Cancer cells can be fatal, if not stopped. While the most common cancer is breast cancer, lung cancer is still the most lethal cancer. Knowing cancer symptoms at an early stage significantly increases treatment success.

Who is at Risk?

First of all, early diagnosis of cancer is essential. The person should have regular health checkup, even if they do not have cancer symptoms. Smokers, passive smokers, those who genetically tend to develop cancer, and those exposed to aspiration are at risk of developing lung cancer.

Causes of cancer:

  • Smoking and excessive alcohol use,
  • Expose the sunlight for long periods and dangerous hours,
  • Overdose X-ray exposure,
  • Some chemicals (tar, gasoline, dyes, asbestos, etc.)
  • Some viruses, (HPV, Hepatitis)
  • Air pollution
  • Radiation exposure,
  • Malnutrition
  • Being over 55
  • Stress and depression
  • Family history and inherited cancer genes
  • Hormonal changes

Avoiding smoking

Tobacco has a risk factor that causes cancer death worldwide and is largely preventable. It is estimated that tobacco causes twenty-two percent of all cancer deaths. Not only smoking, but chewing tobacco can also cause cancer. Those who breathe the smoke of smoking in the vicinity are also at risk.

How to Prevent Cancer

The first thing that you have to do is avoiding smoking and tobacco use. Cigarette and tobacco products can cause lung, mouth, pharyngeal, tracheal, esophageal, pancreas, cervix, kidney, and bladder cancers.

  • Don’t use cigarettes and other tobacco products, stop using them
  • Eat fresh fruit and vegetables at least five times a day.
  • Keep fat intake low
  • Do not consume red meat more than once a week
  • Restrict alcohol consumption
  • Avoid obesity.
  • Exercise at least three times a week for thirty minutes of brisk walking
  • Contact your local cancer early diagnosis and training center and follow the recommended screening programs.
  • Avoid sunlight during noon
  • Learn and follow the ‘Occupational Health Rules’ where you work.
  • If you notice abnormal bleeding, unhealed wound, newly emerging or growing mass, you should contact your doctor.

Healthy Eating Prevents Cancer

The key to healthy living is through regular and balanced nutrition. If you don’t want to get cancer, take a look at the list that you need to consume below;

  • Fruits (citrus fruits)
  • Vegetables (leafy green ones)
  • Brassicaceae (cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, etc.)
  • Soybeans, beans, chickpeas, lentils
  • Fish and fish oils
  • Yogurt
  • Cereal Grains
  • Green tea,
  • Garlic and onion
  • Vitamin C, Vitamin E, carotenes, and folic acid
  • Fruit and vegetable Purees, Juice Pulp
  • Selenium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, potassium.
